Jakarta Trip

I have not been blogging for the longest time!!! So here are some updates.

We brought Justyn and my in laws to Jakarta for a short holiday in October. We decided to splurge on the hotel and hence the Grand Hyatt Jakarta. It was the best choice we have ever made. Here's why:

1. The hotel is located to 2 very huge shopping malls. We only need to walk from one mall to the next, escaping the horror of the Jakarta traffic jam.

2. On the first day, we tried to venture out by car to eat the famous bak mee and to get from the hotel to the place took us 30 mins when actually it will only take us half the time if not for the jam. It does not help when Justyn keeps crying in the car, perhaps due to the weather and also perhaps he is very bored as the car is crawling on the road.

3. So after the above incident, we decided to settle all our meals and our time in the 2 shopping malls, much to the delight of everyone!

4. In one of the shopping mall, there is a kids' land called Minniopolis. And there was this train ride "Mr Crick Express" that will go around the shopping mall. So we took Justyn to sit on the train and he loves it! The ride was not expensive so we took turns and sat a few rounds with Justyn.

The Power of a Burp

Justyn's usual last milk feed is about 10.30 p.m. before he sleeps. However, 2 nights ago, after finishing his last drop of milk, Justyn gave a loud burp and seconds later, "blah" ... out came his milk!!! I was first shocked but later I actually found it amazing and amusing at the same time! I never knew the power of a burp until now.

To Justyn, he was just amused by the incident and he even gave a cheeky smile and wipe the milk off his mouth. To us, we have to change his clothes, change his bedsheet and wipe the milk spill from the floor. And it was suppose to be sleeping time!

The power of a burp. There is always a first to everything and for me, this is definately a first! May it also be the last!

Kids Amaze (Ethan's 6th Birthday)

For a parent who has never been to any of those playgrounds for children aka "Go-Go Bambini" or any of such for that matter, I must say this Kids Amaze at the Safra Jurong is truly A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

For one, the indoor playground is huge and tall! When I entered the place, my first reaction was WOW! This truly is a playground for children. There were slides and I mean SLIDES that twirl round and round. And the funny part is that, it was the adults that got the bruises. The kids were alright! It is also a workout for the parents as we had to curl and bend to get from one level to the next. But it was a fun time for both adults and children. Thanks to Dawn, I finally have a pix with Justyn that looks good! Wonder which places will be available when Justyn turns 6??? Bigger slides and taller playgrounds???

Justyn's sleeping updates

These 2 days have been a miracle for us as Justyn is sleeping well through the night. He stirs a little and I only need to feed him water and that alone can last him till morning. His last milk feed ranges between 10 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. And he will wake up about 6 a.m for his first milk feed. Praise the Lord!

I can see a little light at the end of a very dark tunnel ... I am believing that things will only get better and better!

Week of Prayer

This whole week was a "week of prayer" for me too. While the people are praying at the various locations in the mornings, I will be praying at home. Reason? For Justyn to sleep peacefully through the night!

Justyn was very cranky throughout the week. He will sleep from 1030 p.m. and will wake up at 1-2 a.m. for a feed. After which, he will try to sleep but to no avail. He will be tossing and turning on his mattress and will be crying as he is tired but unable to sleep. This process can go on from 2 to 4 a.m. and then it will start again at 5-6 plus. In his tossing and turning stupor, his eyes are actually closed but his hands are waving to and fro ... it is as if he is fighting in his dreams! I wish he can just stop moving and SLEEP!!!

Well, we will see how this goes. Look out for further updates in my blog. May the updates be positive and encouraging ones!

Wheels on the Bus

Justyn is now kept entertained in his car seat by watching the "Wheels on the bus" series. His favourites will be "The Grand Duke of York" and "Itsy Winsy Spider". Personally, I enjoy humming to the tunes of these songs too! I am still a child at heart.

I managed to capture some shots of Justyn while he is watching the cartoons. He can be focus when he wants to. By the way, one of his habits is now putting his finger in his mouth and bite, as you can see from the pix below.

Screaming Phase???

I have heard of the terrible twos phase. But is there also a terrible one turning two phase? Justyn is now into the screaming phase. He screams when he is excited, screams when he is upset, screams when he is hungry ...

I sometimes wonder maybe this is his current means of communication with us to get our attention? Anyway, I am waiting for that day when he can utter his first words "Mama" and "Papa". And I think for that, the current screaming phase is all worth it! (The Lord help us!)

Justyn's walking updates

Justyn has now progressed from being able to walk a few steps to walking many steps unassisted. He is now learning how to stand up by himself from a siting position. His favourite hobby is now bending down to pick up a ball, throw the ball, walk towards the ball and pick it up and starts throwing it again. He really has boundless energy. This new found hobby is making his daddy and mummy very tired as we have to follow behind him and walk around the house with him!

Justyn's First Haircut

We finally brought Justyn to cut his hair! This is his first haircut eversince he was born. It costs us $20! Nowadays, children's stuff can be comparable to adult's stuff in terms of pricing. Anyway, back to Justyn's cut. Being unaware of what is happening to him, he happily allowed the hairdresser to snip his hair INITIALLY. As you watch the video below, you will see how his facial expression changed from one happy boy to a crying baby!!!

Justyn's First Few Steps

Justyn is now learning how to walk. He can now walk about 4-6 steps unassisted. I believe he should be able to walk very very soon! Yeah!

Justyn on the bicycle

We brought Justyn to East Coast Park and let him have a try on the bicycle last Monday. He was initially a little apprehensive and remain serious and quiet when we first strapped him up. But he was intrigued by the bell and after a while, he wants to hold the handle of the bicycle and refuses to let Chong put his hands on the handles! The faith of a child ... Justyn really believes he can ride the bicycle on his own.

Justyn at Taipei Zoo

We brought Justyn to the Taipei Zoo. The main highlight is the Panda Bears! Watch the video below.

Justyn's 1st Birthday Party

We celebrated Justyn's first birthday today at the office nursery. It was a very fun time for all the kids! Thanks to all who made this day a fun and memorable one for Justyn.

Justyn sleeps through the night!!!

May 19 was a BIG milestone in Justyn's life! He actually slept through the night!!! To those that know, he has never slept through the night since birth. So Ps Yong and I were over the moon. Well it did give us faith to believe that slowly but surely, Justyn will sleep through the night! Yeah.

Better Late Than Never

For once, I totally agree with the saying "Better Late Than Never". 11 May marks the date of one of Justyn's milestones in his life. Finally after months of wondering and waiting, Justyn crawls!!! He crawls using his tummy. Guess there are many different ways a baby crawls. But better late than never! Now we are waiting for Justyn to take his first step and walk!

First Mother's Day Celebration

Visit to Dr Yip

To follow up on my earlier post, it was truly the constipation that was giving Justyn the discomfort. Cos after the banana puree, his bowels were out! And it was a happy Justyn again! However, that did not solve the night waking situation.

Anyway, we brought Justyn to see Dr. Yip again on Monday as he was having running nose. Due to the recent flu virus thingy, everyone that went to the medical center has to be screened and to have their temperatures checked. We were not excluded. That includes Justyn as well. As he was having a slight running nose, he was asked to wear a mask. But no matter how I tried, Justyn simply refuses to wear the mask! Anyway, the mask was also too big for his face. Maybe they should design a mask for infants???

Night Training Suspended

Justyn's night training has been temporarily suspended as he was down with flu recently. Sigh ... he has been having the running nose and his voice sounded a little hoarse too. But he is recovering.

However the past 2 nights have been our greatest nightmares yet! Justyn will wake up in the middle of the night and screamed his lungs out! Chong and I are at our wits end also cos we do not know what he wants.

Hungry? No. Nightmare? No. Just want to be carried? No. Teething? We really don't know.

It is really trial and error ... the heartache of every parent: Unable to discern the cries of our baby. But yesterday night, we suspect that Justyn may be having a tummy ache. His bowels have not been regular for the past 2 days. So it could be constipation discomfort that he is experiencing. Well, we fed him banana and a little payaya today. So our prayer is that he will clear his bowels today and sleep happily tonight!

I must say it is really not easy to be a parent! But it sure is rewarding when you see your little one smile at the end of it all.

Crocs

Justyn's crocs is bought by a few of the staff (P. Tan, Jacq, Robin, Ting, P.Zhuang & Audrey) when they came to visit Justyn during my one month confinement period. And finally he is able to put them on. Now I am waiting for the day he can walk in them by himself. Time really flies!

Justyn's first swim

We finally brought Justyn to the pool at the Mandarin Oriental. It was his first time in a pool and he simply loves the water!
